The Society of Naval Architects (SNAS) is the student body of the Department of Ship Technology. Established as a professional body in 1981, it comprises students from the junior most to the senior most batches. As a youthful dynamic body, SNAS represents the fervor and spirit of the Royal Shippies. SNAS has been instrumental in upholding the tradition of the Shippies as well as coordinating the various student activities under one marquee. The official body of the SNAS comprises the SNAS secretary, the Editor of Shipstechinc journal, the treasurer, the secretaries for arts and sports. There shall be an advisor to SNAS from one of the department faculty members. The tenure of the official body is usually one academic year. Apart from this, SNAS organizes and conducts seminars and lectures of distinguished personalities from academia as well as industry on a regular basis. Papers presented by the students have claimed prizes in various prestigious events. The University Arts and Sports Champion titles come to Department of Ship Technology every year and this signifies the zest and the ardor possessed by the Shippies. All these are diligently coordinated by SNAS.

An academic year of SNAS is bustled with various activities. The society publishes an annual technical journal called Shipstechnic every year. It consists of technical papers from authorities in marine R&D, shipyards and related industries. The journal has carved a niche for itself being one of the rare publications in this field. Plans are underway to elevate the journal to an international one.
